More information on our immigration counters

(Counters and below information supplied by www.TheAmericanResistance.com , webmaster Fred Elbel)

On December 9, 2003, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge stated that there are 8 to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States.1 The official U.S. Census Bureau estimate is 8 million2, but other Census data extrapolates to more like 10 million. We are unaware of any academic estimate higher than 13 million.

Our counter is based on Tom Ridge's December 9, 2003 higher figure of 12 million.

Regarding annual illegal immigration, the Center for Immigration Studies3 has extrapolated the latest Census data to show that 700,000 to 800,000 new illegal aliens are settling each year. Many more than that number actually enter illegally each year, but not all remain. The 700,000 to 800,000 figure represents illegals who stay for at least several years and most usually stay much longer.

1 Washington Times article Ridge rapped for immigration views by Jerry Seper, December 11, 2003:

"Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge's suggestion that 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States be 'legalized' drew harsh criticism yesterday from congressional and other opponents of such legalization."
