ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IN TENNESSEE

Illegal immigration is the single greatest threat to our nation's security, economy, and healthcare industry. Every year 800,000 illegal immigrants enter our country. No doubt, some of these criminals are terrorists, drug dealers, and slave traffickers. These illegal immigrants compete and take jobs from the working poor and lower middle class. Jobs in manufacturing, construction, and the food industry are just a few of the areas that illegal immigrants are over supplying our labor markets. By doing this they drive down wages for everyone. It is estimated that between 10 million and 20 million illegal immigrants live in the U.S.  Illegal immigrants also bring diseases into our country that are incurable and not treatable. Coming into the U.S. legally requires a physical examination, but illegal immigrants avoid these examinations.

We are the only country in the world that allows citizenship of foreigners simply by birth in U.S. This results in upwards of 350,000 babies born here every year to illegal immigrants. I find it fascinating that some politicians are so upset over foreign nationals running our ports, but these same people will do nothing to stop the 800,000 people walking into the U.S. illegally. We must stop the invasion of illegal immigrants into our country.  Consider the following facts and make your own judgment as to whether there is an illegal immigration problem in our country and our state.

  • The last five years have seen the largest migration of people into the United States in history (7.9 million people). I have seen estimates that the actual number of illegal aliens is twice as high as I report here.

  • 35.2 million immigrants in the country

  • 10.3 million (29%) are here illegally (this is the lowest figure I have seen)

  • It is believed that there are over 20 million illegals in the U.S.

  • 700,000 to 800,000 illegals enter the U.S. annually 57% are Mexican, 24% other Latinos

  • It is also believed that the actual number of illegals coming into the U.S. is about three million per year and our border patrol only stops about 33% of those coming in.

  • 80% - 85% of the migration from Mexico in recent years has been undocumented.

  • Since 2000, half of all immigrants came here illegally.

  • There are 465,000 criminals in the U.S. with deportation orders that cannot be located

  • At the present rate of growth, it is projected that in the year 2050, 1 in 7 (15%) of people born in Mexico will be living in the U.S.

  • When children of Mexican immigrants that are that are born in the U.S. are added into these same projections, it is estimated that 39 million Mexican immigrants will live in the U.S. in 2050. This is equal to 30% of the projected population of Mexico.

  • Every year it is estimated that 18,000 people are brought into the U.S. as slaves. Eighty percent (80%) are women and children. Since few are rescued, there could be hundreds of thousands of these victims in our country working in all job categories.

  • Conservative estimates are that 21 million people would be given amnesty within four years. Another 36.5 million would be given amnesty after eight years. America cannot afford this as most of the immigrants would qualify for welfare.

  • Amnesty rewards criminals and punishes those who obey the law.

  • Amnesty increases illegal immigration as was proven in the last amnesty program.

  • We must deport illegals, not reward them with citizenship, green cards, or welfare.

  • 55.2% immigrants have a high school diploma or less education level

  • We must change the law that allows 300,000 to 350,000 babies born annually in the United States (to illegal aliens) to become citizens just because they are born on U.S. soil.

  • We must control our borders if we are going to stop this invasion of illegal activity.

  • Illegals do not have to pass health inspections and as a result bring diseases into this country such as Tuberculosis; Leprosy; Dengue Fever; Polio; Malaria; Hepatis A, B, C; and Chagas Disease, which is incurable and infects 18 million people per year and causes 50,000 fatalities per year.

  • 26.9% of all immigrant headed households are using at least one welfare program

  • 25% of SSI recipients are legal and illegal aliens.

  • One third of all immigrants lack health insurance

  • Immigrants and their U.S. born children account for three fourths (9 million people) of the increase in the uninsured population since 1989.

  • Enrollment of the 25 major government programs increased 17% between 2000 and 2005 even though our nation’s population increased by only 5%. This was the largest increase in Medicaid’s history.

  • 15 million new people were added to these government programs over the last five years.

  • Immigrants and their minor children account for almost one in four persons living in poverty (i.e. they need welfare and other government assistance programs).

  • All illegal immigrants are committing crimes while here such as violation of immigration laws, trafficking of drugs and humans, income tax evasion, welfare fraud, identity theft, trespassing and driving without a license and insurance.

  • Illegal immigration is the single greatest threat to the security of this country because it allows terrorists and their weapons easy access into the country.

  • 95% of outstanding warrants for the crime of homicide in L.A. are for illegal aliens.

  • Illegals are subject to abuse, exploitation, and slavery due to their status. By having a system in place to make legal immigration more efficient we could significantly reduce the crimes against illegals.

  • Half of the increase in immigrant employment since 2000 is estimated to be from illegal immigration.

  • Between March 2000 and March 2004, the number of unemployed adult U.S. natives increased by 2.3 million, while the number of employed adult immigrants increased by 2.3 million.

  • Two-thirds of jobs went to immigrant workers from March 2003 to March 2004 even though they account for 15% of all adult workers.

  • Immigrants do not take jobs Americans will not do. Otherwise, there would not be Americans performing those jobs. What immigrants do is oversupply the labor markets and drive down wages so Americans cannot afford to do that job

  • To stop the flow of illegals into this country, we must stop the demand. Our government has to enforce the law in regards to employers hiring illegals

  • In 2004, the federal government did not give a single employer a fine for hiring illegals.

  • We must go after the people who hire illegals and this will drive down the demand for illegals coming in to the U.S.

  • People who do not see illegal immigration as a big problem work in jobs that are not at risk of being lost due to illegals oversupplying labor and forcing wages in that field down.

  • It is amazing that our politicians would allow illegal aliens to come into our country and force its citizens to either take drastic pay cuts in order to keep their jobs, or be forced into another career.

  • The U.S. should help other countries set up free market economies. Mexico receives 30 billion in remittances sent home. This is 30 billion dollars Americans did not earn and were not able to spend on their families.

  • 80% of the meth coming into the U.S. comes from Mexico

  • 12 U.S. citizens are murdered every day by illegal aliens.

  • 13 U.S. citizens are killed by illegals driving under the influence every day.

  • Tennessee's immigrant population has risen from 39,000 in 1995, to 110,000 in 2000, to 264,000 in 2005. This is a 140% increase in the population over the last five years.

  • 264,000 immigrants live in Tennessee. Of these, between 100,000 to 150,000 are illegals

  • I believe the number of illegals in Tennessee is over 300,000

  • North Carolina has an estimated 300,000 illegals that live in their state. Georgia has upwards of 250,000. Texas has 1.4 million. California has 2.4 million.

  • Most Tennesseans (76%) will be competing for the same jobs as the illegals due to similar educational backgrounds. These jobs occur in construction, manufacturing and the food service industries.

  • Tennesseans cannot compete with illegals for these jobs due to unfair advantages which include: illegals do not pay income or business taxes nor do they purchase permits or insurance

  • Lower wages mean lower tax revenues for the state and decreases in services provided.

  • Tennessee has given over 51,000 driving certificates and over 180,000 driving licenses to people believed to be here illegally since 2001

  • Governor Bredesen rejects the idea that Tennessee State Troopers be trained in federal immigration laws.

  • Illegals cost state and local governments between 11 to 22 billion dollars a year

  • There are 74,000 illegals in state prisons and 147,000 in local jails.
